To celebrate the 100th anniversary of Lithuanian basketball, festive jerseys have been created. They were inspired by the attire of the bronze medal-winning team at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games, which the basketball players wore during the medal ceremony.
After regaining independence, the Lithuanian men’s basketball team lacked funds to travel to the Olympic Games in Spain in 1992. The Lithuanians received support from the legendary rock band The Grateful Dead. The Americans created and showcased jerseys with a skeleton dunking a basketball during the charity concert. The funds raised helped the basketball players to travel to the Olympic Games and compete for medals. Despite all prohibitions to wear unofficial attire and symbols by the Olympic Committee, Lithuanians stepped onto the podium wearing ‘The Grateful Dead’ jerseys. So the legendary basketball skeleton became even more popular, and the Lithuanian team became known as another dream team.
